Precise, distinct, and very loud. Easy blowing, no-nonsense.

I now own several models from Acme and Fox 40, and I think Acme's pealess whistle products are underrated. They aren't as flamboyantly stylish as some of the newer Fox 40 designs, but they are very well made, they feel great and perform flawlessly. This is the louder-brother of the Cyclone 888 model. It is most comparable to Fox 40's Sonik Blast Fox 40 Sonik Blast Cushion Mouth Group Sports and Safety Loud Whistle with Lanyard, Orange & Black (2 Pack), which were measured by Refsworld to be in the same class of the most powerful whistles (~127.0 dB). You need to be careful with whistles this powerful as you can easily hurt your own ears or those of others if too close by. I would NEVER use whistles of this class indoors. Look to the Cyclone 888 model if you'll be using the whistle in a gymnasium setting. The T2000 has the same general platform as the Cyclone 888, but has an extra chamber in the middle, making it wider. The voice hole for that chamber is directed out the bottom surface. The wider form factor may make it easier to handle with gloved hands, making a good choice on ski patrol. This T2000 is very well made, with high quality plastic that feels solid and sturdy. There is a micro texture to some surfaces that I find comfortable and reassuring in terms of its handling quality. My example has perfectly finished seams and no burrs, which has been typical of the high build standard I've seen in all the Acme models I own. My Fox 40 examples have a little variation to them. My Classic is well built like the Acmes, but my example of the Fox 40 Sonik Blast looked and felt a little more like a cheap toy, with sloppy seams and burrs, which thankfully that didn't affect the sound performance. I don't worry too much about cracking the plastic of this Acme T2000 in sub-freezing weather, but I'm not sure about the Sonik Blast (don't drop it). Both the T2000 and the Sonik Blast are easy to blow as well as being very loud. I think the Sonik Blast is a little bit easier, but the T2000 is no harder to blow than the Cyclone 888, and all take much less air to sound than the Fox 40 Classic. The T2000 produces the same distinct and fully developed trill of the 888, even at modest blow strength. For pealess whistles, I think both the 888 and T2000 produce the most "pea"-like sound of any model I've tried so far, and I find their sound very aesthetically pleasing. Fox 40's Sonik Blast, for comparison also has a great sound, though I feel the trill isn't as crisp. I also noticed that the Sonik Blast sounds different depending on which way you orient it in your mouth, though this is likely due to sound from one of the chambers needing to reflect off the ground first before reaching the ears of the blower; it seems to me people hearing the whistle at a distance would not notice.Fox 40, I wonder, may wish to study the effect of the location of the voice holes on their designs. The Acme T2000's hole location seems to project the loudest sound straight out in front of the user, which is safer for their hearing. The Sonik Blast's holes emerge top and bottom, but the shape of the body and the taper to the mouth opening might be causing too much sound energy to project out too close to the plane of the user. I've about deafened myself with just a short tweet while bicycling with the whistle in the right wind conditions. I've not had this problem with the T2000.The T2000, apart from being wide, has a traditional feel in the mouth, and like all similar form-factor whistles is easy to hold in the teeth, hands-free. Its competition the Sonik Blast, however, is wide in the vertical dimension with a short taper to the mouthpiece. It's good that the Sonik Blast has a comfort mouth grip (CMG) molded in, because the short taper makes it surprisingly awkward to hold in the mouth, as it feels like it wants to squirt out from between your lips. A little bite pressure against the CMG ridges prevents that and I could still hold it hands free, but the T2000 just felt more stable to work with hands-free.It seems to me that Fox 40 may be trying to differentiate themselves in the market by focusing more on the physical appearance of their whistle designs. The Sonik Blast seems to go a tad too far in this regard, compromising the user's ability to hold it in the mouth confidently. The playful appearance may cause one to not take it seriously. Although wide, the Acme T2000 maintains the same no-nonsense design shapes that have been standard of whistles for decades, it's easy to hold and conveys a sense of utilitarian confidence. If the Sonik Blast looks playful, I would say the T2000 looks professional. No worries with this one, it's here to work, so let's make some signals!

Current Lifeguard

I currently am and have been a lifeguard for a couple of years now and this is by far the loudest whistle I have ever used and heard. Don't get me wrong, the Acme Thunderer is very loud and so is the Fox 40 as well as the All Weather Storm Whistle; but this whistle is louder. When I was looking at the Fox 40 and the All Weather Storm Whistle, I was conflicted. The Fox 40 is a great whistle that everyone has and the All Weather Storm Whistle is still pretty good.I did my research on this whistle however and found out that this whistle is approved by the U.S. Coast Guard and is rated at 121 decibels. What does this mean? It's the loudest whistle that I have researched. The Fox 40 was rated at 119 decibels and the All Weather Storm Whistle was rated at 120 decibels so while they are all very loud whistles, the Acme Tornado 2000 is louder. The pitch of the Acme Tornado is also a lot higher than that of the Fox 40. When I use the Acme Tornado, it does hurt my ears a lot more than the Fox 40 when I blow full blast but it does get everyone's attention faster.Pros:-it is the loudest whistle i have ever heard and used-it is bright yellow so you can easily find it at the bottom of the pool or ground-it will get everyone's attention a lot fasterCons:-its slightly bigger than the Fox 40-the higher pitch can hurt your ears

Pretty good

For the price of $4 it is probably one of the best whistles that you can get. it’s very loud so it’s great as a referee especially at tournaments. the pitch is pretty unique compared to my other whistles. It takes some practice to get used to especially since the mouth is pretty small.

Upgrade from a Fox 40 and doesn't make you temporarily deaf

This whistle is exactly the ones they use at soccer games (big ones). You can tell by the sound.I am a lifeguard and used a Fox 40 for my entire career and decided to switch it up. One day, some kids were leaning on the lane line and I yelled at them to get off. (They didn't). So I blew my Fox 40 once, and waited for them to turn around...nothing. Blew it again ... nothing. The entire water polo team was staring at me at this point, but the kids on the lane line were still on the lane line. So that was the day I googled "loudest commercial whistle" and decided I needed an ACME T2000. The increase from 115dB to 126dB was very welcome, and the situation hasn't happened since. The Fox 40 would make me go temporarily deaf after blasting it, but this one doesn't - maybe due to the alignment of the flutes "away" from you or something. I'd learned to plug my ears every time I blew it. This seems like it's quieter (as a result of the sound being projected away) but the echoes definitely prove it otherwise. Definitely louder than a Fox 40. It's also bigger than a Fox 40.

This is a perfect whistle

Theres not much more to say. This whistle is LOUD! It's reliable. Everyone should have one on their keychain. I would never recomend using a whistle as a means of self defense, but if you blew this full blast within 5 feet of an attacker, you would cause them physical pain, and attract attention. There are a lot of loud whistles, I have several of them, but this one is smaller than the hurricane whistle and I think it is "as loud" as that. The best whistle is the one you have with you when you need it, that makes this one ideal to have in my book.

Perfect for telemarketers!

LOUD! I purchased this whistle to blow in the phone when telemarketers and SPAM callers call me. Works like a charm!! I am certain I have blown some eardrums in India and Nigeria! Highly recommend!! My SPAM calls are down considerably.
